Hong Kong turns out in numbers for West Kowloon Cultural District’s Stage 2 Public Engagement Exercise

Roving exhibition makes second stop at Tuen Mun Town Hall from
4 September

Exhibition of the three Conceptual Plan Options prepared by three world-class planners on Hong Kong’s future arts hub will move to Tuen Mun on Saturday (Sept 4), following a successful debut at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre to kick off the Stage 2 Public Engagement (PE) exercise conducted by the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority.

The public, professional and stakeholder groups have responded enthusiastically to the PE exercise since it was launched on August 20. More than 13,000 visitors had visited the exhibition that followed and the Authority has already received more than 3,000 completed questionnaires and submissions within two weeks.

To facilitate New Territories visitors, the three Conceptual Plan Options -- prepared by Foster + Partners, Rocco Design Architects Ltd and Office for Metropolitan Architecture -- will be on display at the Exhibition Gallery of Tuen Mun Town Hall from this Saturday (September 4) until September 20. Opening hours will be between 11am and 8pm, admission is free and guided tours will be conducted to facilitate visitors.

The roving exhibition will then move to Sha Tin Town Hall, Queensway Government Offices, the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre and InnoCentre until the exercise ends on 20 November 2010. A series of public/ stakeholder group forums, focus group meetings and workshops will be conducted to hear views from professional as well as arts and culture groups.

The Stage 2 PE exercise is conducted to gauge public view on whether the Conceptual Plan Options had addressed comments received in Stage 1. Views are also being sought on the individual features of the plans and on how core arts and cultural facilities should be phased.

Details on the current PE exercise and questionnaires are also available on the Authority’s website (www.wkcda.hk).
